This sundial is manufactured under license with the Smithsonian Institution This sundial has the Latin inscription R. Glynne Fecit - roughly, -made by R. Glynne+. The sundial is interesting in that it sets forth what is referred to as the equation of time. These are the modifications necessary on a day-to-day basis to correct for the earth's somewhat uneven course around the sun. You will note the middle band on this sundial shows the day in each month and a plus or minus adjustment in minutes to correct for these differences. |
